I'm not going to beat around the bush: the warlock damage in the guild is low if not very low compared to other classes and it's not due to warlocks being shit or nerfed or any other excuse like that. Tables to help believe me:
ImageImage
*These tables were made before the ICC buff.

Ell: Oh those symbols at the bottom of the bars indicate spec, its all so obvious now...

If you are thinking "I'm doing fine" you probably aren't because you can always do better. (Also I'm telling you :D)

I could list who is doing a better job and who isn't but I won't cause the fact of the mater is all warlocks are not doing their best.

Now after realizing we are sucking a bit we fix it. If I could go to your house and watch you play I could probably fix most of what is holding you back but unfortunately (more like fortunately for you not to have my arrogant ass over at your place) I can't do that. What I can do is point you in the right direction when it comes to guides and information.

Destruction
Affliction
Demonology

Click the link to the spec you want to read up on.

*These people know what they are talking about (seriously) if you think you are doing something right but they say otherwise chances are they will be right.

I unsderstand that it can be tedious, annoying or boring to read up on stuff or even "study" for a game. While that is true it's not really that bad and while there's a lot of info there you will find that those pages are packed with charts and data that you don't have to memorize. Read up on it. Try a new spec. Anything to keep you interested in your class and performing well. As DPS your job is to DPS(if that wasn't obvious enough) and as pures you have to kick hybrid ass.

I urge you (It's pretty much mandatory but meh...) to purchase Dual Talent Specialization from your trainer and use it with another DPS spec.

Something that really bugs me is that I sometimes see you guys high on the meters but only for one or two fights. You probably give it your all because you want a drop or cause someone just told you your DPS sucks or wants to compete with you. Bottom line is that doesn't mater: do your best ALWAYS. This is specially true for one of you and you know who you are.

After all of this I want to remind you that I don't want you to become DPS Whores... Heroism doesn't make you immune to the fight mechanics or place you out of the fire. The same principle applies to doing high DPS: don't stop attacking the bone spikes on Marrowgar or the adds on Saurfang. What you have to do is to be more productive and put all your global cooldowns to good use (yes, each global cooldown you don't use doing something useful means a kitten gets run over by a car... think about the kittens).

If you've read all the way down here and haven't left the computer thinking SCREW BILLY that's a good thing... means yer willing to do something so here are some video-guides (not that this means you can ignore the written ones btw...):

Demonology
Destruction
Affliction

All the videos are updated for 3.3 and if you don't like these you can always type: WARLOCK GUIDE on Youtube. Remember: Google is your friend.

One last thing: Sometimes people's DPS is low because their UI doesn't give them all the information they need. To get this information we use addons. I use a ton as you can see from the screenshots I've put up on this website but you don't need all the shiny things I like to see on my screen. Some addons I'd strongly recommend:

Quartz: a cast bar that also shows you latency and timers for your DoTs and debuffs.

Xforte: a big one for Affliction warlocks that shows you bars with the different DoTs and when they will "tick". If you download it you should also watch a video on how to use it on youtube.

Power Auras Classic: an addon that will show you something (you configure) on your screen when you can either use a spell, something is on cooldown... you name it. This helps with tunnel vision. Again watch a video on youtube on how to configure it.

OmniCC: will change your icons in such a way that you'll see a timer on it for the cooldown (very useful). Will help predicting when stuff comes off cooldown precisely.

MikScrollingBattleText: this will remove the yellow numbers you see on top of mobs when you damage them and show the damage on the sides of your characters. It makes it a lot easier to know how much your spells are hitting for, how much is resisted or if spells have missed. It will also warn you when your health is low and you can configure it to alert you when certain things happen.

*Go to Curse.com to download them... I'm too lazy to make hyperlinks for all of them.

I want this thread to stay strictly on topic and not turn into anything it shouldn't so I might be deleting posts
I think Crendoc will probably have a few things to say as he's been playing his own warlock fairly often and might give us some input. With this I welcome input from "any" source.

Well someone had to say it...

I never understood why our locks didn't rock the meters like locks always used to. Then one pugged ICC 10 hc with us and came top of damage done... And I was more confused.

Then I got the same dps on my heroic geared 4.8k GS alt on a heroic boss as some of ours do on ICC 25 bosses, and I was more confused...

Thats my 2 cents... I hope I wasn't too critical

Ell (Undergeared warlock in training)

Edit: If this isn't on topic feel free to delete it Billy

I agree with billy. It's been a while since I saw decent damage from a warlock. Well, no, im wrong... the other day Cren on his lock manage to surprise me after telling me how hard it is to dps as a lock XD and i have to admit wao... locks ARE capable of something... so... yeh ^^ thats all I have to say ^^ gogo locks!

Billy i'm curious about one thing. I'm using Fortexorcist myself, works well with druids too, but why should one use power aura classic and omniCC? Fx does pretty much the same thing, it has cooldown bar like the 2nd and 3rd addons you suggested. I'm just curious, or maybe i'm talking about a different one.

OmniCC shows the cooldowns on the bars wheras PowA can be configured to show you if certain debuff is up on target, if you have certain proc or if you have a timer on something(like a trinket) that will expire and you want to see it in the centre of the screen instead of the default top right hand side.

i have no problems hitting 10k single target in 5m dungeon bosses let alone raid bosses. 12k+ in raids, if the tank can keep up.

have managed 50k dps on aoe. no other class can touch that.

nowt wrong with locks right now really, except destro should always be better dps than afflict and its broken on that front imo :P

Lies, affli is harder so it should always be greater dps...

Saying that I still miss shadow bolt spam dps in tbc

Demo is positively baffling compared to tbc destro.

Keeping 2 dots up and incinerating on procs compared to putting CoE up and pressing '1' for 5 mins...

In fights where you have to run (like LK) Affi is better.. Because you can do crazy damage and still not failing on the defile or something like that.
Demo is better for fight where you don't have to move so much.. my opinion. :)

demo beats affliction only at bosses where u need good single target burst dmg. example professor putricide and dreamwalker. also if u need to move too much so u dont get chance to refresh ur dots asap when dots wears off.

reason for this is that affliction really need to keep all dots on and evevn keeping dots on not enough to beat demo locks. u have to be sure u not clip those. and use haunt everytime when its rdy. afflicion locks has also one of The best executes tho hard to use right. i mean soul drain. keepin dots up and usin haunt and nightfall proc in right point. if u cast haunt/instant sb/dots just before souldrain tick u lose much ur dmg output. there is addon called souldrain or drainsoul(if i remember right) which makes sound everytime it ticks. very usefull.

and ofc affliction beats other locks easily on aoe. only weakness for afflictions is that their burst dmg suck and even destros beats them. example dreamwalker destro pwns affliction easily unless affliction just spam SoC on supressers ^^

tho dmg different between affliction and demo is not big and if there is not other demo then demo gives better raid dmg.

Cen PowA really good for example showin when haunt rdy or when ur lifetap buff about to wear of. personally i dont like watch those from timers. which i use only for keepin dots on track.

waz i have seen unholy dk doing 50k aoe dps ^^

demo is rubbish on dreamwalker... might as well go afk for all the damage u can do. demo is not good burst damage at all, but if u can get a perma-soul fire cycle going then the dps is off the scale - 35k+ hits every 1.3sec...

I haven't raided on my lock but I wish I had in wotlk, although I'd never go destro. Your making all these fights sounds fun again...
